Some stills from the drone of the now disused Ratcliffe On Soar Power Station in Nottinghamshire. Opening in 1968, the power station's vast appetite for coal was fed by many local collieries and in latter years; imported coal through bulk handling ports like Avonmouth and Immingham. On the 30th September 2024, the power station - which at the time of closure was the only coal-fired power station left in the UK - was switched off for the last time. I believe that the UK is also the first of the G7 group of nations to top using coal for power generation.
