The Class 27 locomotives were built between 1961 and 1962 at the Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company (BRCW), the class, which comprised 69 locomotives were a development of the earlier Class 26 locomotive, both of which were classified as BRCW Type 2.
All locomotives were withdrawn by August 1987.
