A look at the abandoned John O'Gaunt Viaduct in Leicestershire. Opened in 1873 as part of the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway from Market Harborough to Newark via Melton Mowbray. Local passenger services ceased in 1953, but the railway was still used by Summer seaside specials, mainly from Leicester Belgrave Road to the East Coast resorts, these however ceased in 1961. The line over the viaduct lingered on until 1964. Granted Grade II listed status in 1985, it was rescinded in 1999 and as such, the viaduct has been left in a delapidated state.
