The Class 47/4's were equipped with Electric Train Supply (ETS), 47401 - 47421 and 47514 and 47515 were already built with ETS included whilst the remainder of the subclass were renumbered from converted 47/0's. Eventually the 47/4 number range covered 47401 - 47665 with the exception of 47601, 47548 was allocated but never used as was 47666. 47/4's that were renumbered into the 47801 - 47854 number range were equipped with long range fuel tanks in the 1980's principally for CrossCountry work although they were never officially classified as 47/8's.
