April 2012 Summary

May 10, 2012

Well, not really much to say for my Birthday Month (30 years young on the 16th), combination of bad weather and having my first road accident in 4 years since I first started riding put paid to any possible photography, nevertheless I did get a few little bits and pieces done:

3rd

The first photograph to start my April 2012 Railway Gallery involved a short ride down to Kingswood Road in Stockingford, Nuneaton the exact location being the car park of the Aldi supermarket, this was to capture the move of 86215 moving from Long Marston storage site near Stratford Upon Avon to Willesden Traincare Depot, 47245 from West Coast Railways provided the motive power for the journey; 86215 is now renumbered to 450 005 and is now painted in the Floyd livery for use in Hungary, of course 86215 can be remembered in happier times as The Round Tabler and was used by Anglia Railways for their express services out of London Liverpool Street to Norwich until their final withdrawal in September 2005 when Class 90's cascaded from the West Coast Mainline were introduced, they themselves withdrawn by Virgin Trains with the introduction of the Class 390 "pendolino" trains.

My second outing was actually before work, when I made a trip to Bedworth Oil Terminal in Warwickshire, on this particular day 60063 which had been recently overhauled and repainted into the house colours of DB Schenker was rostered for the 6M03 22:49 Robeston - Bedworth loaded bogie tanks, it is quite a rarity nowadays for a Brush Type 5 to appear on these trains as they are now mainly the doyen of the Class 66's, although up until around 5 years ago you could almost guarantee a Class 60 to Bedworth when trains use to run from Humber and Port Clarence (Robeston use to be generally Friday only) with Port Clarence on a Monday and Thursday and from Humber on a Tuesday. I sometimes wonder if I should make the same effort for a Class 66.........

22nd

It was quite a long stint until my next phot, just days after going to Bedworth I was knocked off my bike and as such was quite bruised with a severe graze to my right hand (at the time of writing it has almost healed :)), this time the topic if my interest was 47841 and 47818 in top n tail mode working 5Z73 10:40 Eastleigh T&RSMD - Crewe ECS which was conveying the "Cruise Saver" coaches back to "base", I chose Whittington Lane near Atherstone for the shot, although slowly approaching from the North was a huge black rain cloud.

Thankfully with just minutes to spare the train appeared and I got me shot then outran the cloud; no sooner pulling into my compound the heavens opened up and down it came. :D
