Elevate The Situation.
Originally, Aldwych (Strand) was planned to have 3 lift shafts constructed, but only ever 1 was fitted out with lifts. It was also this set of lifts that was the catalyst for the closure of the station as the lifts needed replacing and the price came in at £3 million which back in 1994 was one heck of a lot of money. In fact, it was quoted by London Transport that "It would be cheaper to buy each of the 450 regular commuters a Ford Fiesta each".
