History:


The Class 87 was a type of electric locomotive built from 1973 to 1975 for services over the West Coast Mainline. They were the flagship of British Rail's electric fleet until the 1990's when the Class 90 was introduced. The privatisation of British Rail in 1997 seen the fleet transfer to Virgin Trains where they continued in service until the introduction of the Class 390 Pendolino trains in 2004. There is only 1 Class 87 still in use in the UK and that's 87002 which is owned by the AC Loco Group, the rest have either been withdrawn or exported to Bulgaria.
