The 47/6 sub class was around twice, first appearance in 1975 and then again in 1991, the first subclass loco consisted of 47601 which was a Ruston-Paxman engined prototype rebuilt from 47046. The second batch, which were short lived consisted of 47671 - 47677, which were converted from 47/4's and had an increased ETH rating for dedicated use on the Anglo-Scottish sleeper services and were all based at Inverness.
